The only original piece of Abel Lafleur’s trophy in existence today is the original base, which was swapped out in 1954 for a taller one. The piece was discovered in 2015 stowed away in the basement of the FIFA headquarters in Zurich. In 1970, following Brazil's then-record third tournament win which saw them claim the prize outright, the current version was commissioned. Following England’s success in 1966, the FA had a replica of the Jules Rimet Trophy made to use in exhibitions instead of the real one. However, the English Football Association was prohibited by FIFA from doing so. When the FA returned the original trophy in 1970, the replica was put away for years. The good thing is they've upgraded the replica. That's a helluva lot better than the 1987 replica that was tiny and a bit average. This one is nice to have.
World Rugby, attempting to provide some clarity, said the replica versions were "two-thirds the size" – though that's clearly not true of the 1987 version. Despite suggestions to the contrary, there are also no plans yet to give an original cup to a team that wins the tournament three times.
